Rottweilers Rescues Breeders - Breed History

Ancestors of Rottweilers are very ancient dogs. They were very popular among the Romans who used these large dogs for driving and guarding the cattle and protecting their houses. The invasion of Southern Germany introduced these dogs to he area of Rottweil and gave this breed its modern name. The Germans used Rottweilers as farm dogs; they served as personal protectors and herd dogs. The butchers valued Rottweilers for their strength and protective nature; they tied the money around the dog's neck. The butchers created the breed that we know today. In 1936, Rottweilers were introduced to Great Britain and to the USA. The Britain version tends to be more bulky and muscular; the American variety is more agile and slimmer.

Rottweilers Rescues Breeders - Care Needs

Being rather large and active, Rottweilers require large amounts of high quality food. Never let the dog eat your food, even as treats and never eat your meal when the dog is present. Cow milk may be dangerous for this breed, so use special puppy milk or powder substitute milk to feed a small puppy. Hard biscuits are recommended as treats. Until the age of 18-24 months, Rottweilers require high protein fatty food, but then the amount of fat should be restricted. The dog should be rather lean than fat. Never give your Rottweiler salt, sugar and chocolate, as they are dangerous for dogs. To keep the teeth sound and strong Rottweilers need something hard to chew.
