Only strong-willed and experienced owners that can control a strong dog and make it obey should buy dogs of this breed.

The ideal representative of the breed should be medium large, robust and powerful. These creatures are good as pets and guards; they are short coated and their coat requires regular grooming and occasional bathing. There are markings on the coat of the dog. This breed has probably descended from the Italian Mastiff. In the Middle Ages, these hounds were used as herding dogs. They were bred in the German town of Rottweil in Wurttemberg therefore the name of the breed is similar with the name of the town of the breed origin.
